THE IMPORTANCE OF PGSD STUDENTS UNDERSTAND LVEP FOR STRENGTHENING CHARACTER EDUCATION

Elementary Teacher Study Programme of Alma Ata – Elementary School Teacher Education trains and prepares students as prospective educators who are ready to become professional teachers. Teachers have the main and important role in the implementation of character education in learning activities that determine the attainment of educational goals. Teachers are required to be professional and understand in planning and implementing creative and innovative character education strategies. Therefore, it is important to provide knowledge and teaching skills with character-based innovative learning models to support the Strengthening Character Education (PPK) programme.
The PPK programme is a government programme to prepare the golden generation of 2045 who are devout, nationalist, responsible, independent, and have global competitiveness. However, it cannot be denied that the world of education in Indonesia is still faced with challenges of moral decadence, such as violent behavior, extortion, vandalizing school facilities, lying, cheating, skipping class, smoking in school, promiscuity, and so on. These behaviours are certainly influenced by many factors, both from the family environment, home environment, and school environment. Moreover, the planning and implementation of learning in schools are less innovative and solutive. It is a challenge for teachers to fix and build the good character of their students.
Everyone is born with positive values and qualities. Exploring and finally finding practical ways to make these values grow in the lives of each individual, with the hope that life will be full of meaningful values. This is important because values are believed to be able to unite and penetrate the barriers of differences that separate or distinguish humans from one another, groups from one another, and so on. By continuing to yearn for a life full of values of peace, happiness, and love, it will continue to make everyone strive to achieve it. Especially an institution, agency, and government. A peaceful and tranquil life is expected to grow and develop in the community.
Living Values Education Program or LVEP is a value education programme that offers various value activity experiences so that students can explore and develop life values, such as peace, respect, love, tolerance, happiness, responsibility, cooperation, humility, honesty, simplicity, and unity. With the understanding of LVEP given to Primary School Teacher Education students, it is a manifestation of efforts to take part in supporting the PKK programme for the Golden Generation 2045 as well as preparing students who graduate with understanding and are ready to enter the world of education.
The importance of student understanding related to LVEP in strengthening character makes it easier in the assignment of making lesson plans for elementary school teacher education students or students from other fields is an effort to be able to make lesson plans that are structured with character-based learning models and can be implemented to students properly and flexibly.
