Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training – Based on historical records in the book “How Did the Prophet & His Companions Celebrate Eid?”, we can witness a historic moment in the second year of Hijrah (624 AD) after the success of the Battle of Badr. The Prophet Muhammad and the Muslims celebrated Eid al-Fitr for the first time. This book reveals the joy and excitement of that moment. It’s really exciting, guys! Besides that, many narrations also reveal various activities that the Prophet did to welcome and celebrate Eid al-Fitr. At Alma Ata University, you can explore the deeper meaning behind this historical event.

Here are 6 things the Prophet often did on Eid al-Fitr:

1. Takbiran Did you know that the Prophet always recited the takbir from the last night of Ramadan until the morning of 1 Shawwal? This aligns perfectly with what Allah says in the Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah verse 185: “…and that you should complete the period and that you should glorify Allah for having guided you and that you may be grateful.” This emphasizes the importance of reciting takbir and being grateful for all the blessings given. Awesome, right?

2. Wearing the Best Clothes Bro, on Eid al-Fitr, the Prophet looked his best! He didn’t take it lightly; after taking a bath, he would wear perfume and always dress in his finest clothes. This cool story is recorded in a hadith narrated by Al-Hakim. The Prophet’s style was always on point!

3. Having Breakfast Before Eid Prayer Guys, Eid al-Fitr is one of the days when fasting is prohibited. In fact, some fiqh books state that intending not to fast on Eid al-Fitr earns the same reward as fasting on regular days. Cool, right?

Before the Eid prayer, the Prophet always ate dates, in an odd number; it could be three, five, or seven. There’s a hadith that mentions the Prophet wouldn’t go for prayer until he had eaten a few odd-numbered dates. This is narrated by Ahmad and Bukhari. Awesome, right?

4. Performing Eid Prayer The Prophet always had a fun way of performing the Eid prayer in congregation. He would be with his family and friends, including men, women, and children. Super united, right?

What’s even cooler is that the Prophet liked to choose different routes for going to and returning from the prayer. Not only that, but he also delayed the prayer until the sun was about two meters high. Why? To give everyone enough time to pay their zakat al-fitr. No one is as committed as the Prophet!

5. Visiting Festive Gatherings Guys, during Eid, the Prophet and Aisha would go out to festive places. They watched spear and shield performances, super fun, right? Aisha even popped her head over the Prophet’s shoulder to enjoy the performance. The Prophet knew how to liven up the atmosphere!

6. Visiting Each Other On Eid, the Prophet and his companions had this cool tradition. They would visit each other’s houses to maintain ties. The Prophet also always prayed for their well-being, and of course, they reciprocated by praying for the Prophet.

Not much different from us today, right? On Eid, we also visit relatives’ homes, praying for the best for them. The Prophet was truly an amazing role model!
